Click on the ‘Gear’ icon in the top right of the desktop app to open a modal containing all the configuration options.
General
Toggle on and off options that affect general usage of the desktop app.
- Autostart - When this is on, the desktop app will open automatically when you log into your computer.
- Default to Automount - When you mount a space or folder, automount will be turned on until you manually unmount it.
- Show Hidden Items - Displays files and folders that have a ‘.’ prefix to their name, which normally hides them in file browsers.
Appearance
Change the Theme of the desktop app between ‘Auto’, ‘Light’, and ‘Dark’.
ZeroTier
Displays important information and actions that facilitate connecting to virtual private networks (VPNs).
- Permissions - Shows whether the desktop app has the administrator permissions required to manage ZeroTier networks on your computer.
- Node ID - Click on this to copy the ID for your computer so you can share it with your ‘System Admin’, who will then send you a file to drag and drop into Add Node.
- Reset ZeroTier Permissions - Clicking on this will trigger the permissions to be reset, presenting you with OS popups to grant administrator access.
- Restart ZeroTier Service - Stops and restarts the ZeroTier service behind the scenes, which can sometimes fix networking issues (but you should analyze your network to solve long term).
Update Center
View your current software version and then download and install new releases.
- Version - See the currently installed version of the desktop app.
- Check for Update - Click on this link to check for the latest release from your selected channel, download it, and then install it.
- Release Channel - Change between the ‘Latest’ and ‘Beta’ releases. Even if you have a newer release installed, changing channels will always use that channel’s latest.
VLC
We use the free and open source application ‘VLC’ for our Play on Desktop feature. The desktop app is preconfigured to look at the default install path for your operating system, but you have the option to change the path if you’ve installed it somewhere else.
Play on Desktop is not to be confused with Launch on Desktop. Play streams the media directly into VLC without mounting the space. Launch is the same as mounting the space and double clicking on the file in Finder or File Explorer.
